A group from the University of Leeds, School of Geography and Biology were tasked with the challenge of producing an exhibit at the 2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The focus of the exhibit centred on the role that gardens play in ecosystem services; specifically water use, carbon sequestration and pollination services. In collaboration with Key Engineering Solutions Ltd, the group were able to develop a bespoke system to enhance the pollination section of their exhibit, which enabled visitors to the event to “see your garden through a pollinator’s eyes”. The system is interactive and lets visitors scan the garden display with a set of video cameras to allow parallel “Human-view” and “Bee-view” images to be displayed on a large screen (Read the technical case study…). The system attracted huge number of visitors and helped the group gain a coveted gold medal at the famous event (Read about the gold award…).
